External Description Str : Find your passion for patient care as a full-time Urology Tech/Nursing Assistant at the St. Cloud Hospital. 60-72 hours every two weeks, 7 a.m.- 7:30 p.m. including every third weekend and holiday. Summary: The Urology Tech functions under the direction of the RN and performs procedures related to orthopedic and urological care. This position requires flexibility in working in patient care areas throughout the hospital. Age-appropriate care is provided to patients and families. Supports and implements patient safety and other safety practices as appropriate. Supports and demonstrates Family Centered Care principles when interacting with patients and their families and with co-workers. Duties and Responsibilities : - Performs functions related to urological care of the male patient which includes insertion of and removal of catheters. Problem solves difficult catheterizations (male and female) and recommends alternative methods or catheters. Performs manual or CBI irrigations, installation of jells, and obtains cultures. Problem solves post-op complications related to TUR patients such as excessive bleeding, leaking catheter, clotting and bladder spasms. - Performs bladder scans in ICU, ETC, CPRU, FBC, Mental Health, and Peds. Serves as a resource for staff, assisting with certifications and problem-solving complex situations. - Provides discharge teaching related to male urology procedures such as leg bag application, removal and cleaning. - Performs functions related to orthopedic care which includes setting up and adjusting traction including Hodgen splint, T set up, balanced suspension, cervical, back and pelvic traction. Evaluates need and performs customized trimming/petalling/splitting and windowing of casts. - Serves as a resource for difficult transfers/lifts and need for/operation of special lifting devices, including the River Campus Clinic. Serves as a resource for specialty beds. - Responds to all emergency codes. Performs chest compressions during CPR, applies Lucas external compression device as directed. Responds to behavioral management issues utilizing the principles of NCI. Utilizes fire extinguishers during fire codes. - Provides post-mortem care as needed, assists with identification and transport of patients to the morgue following death. - Provides transport. - Performs pacemaker interrogations during times when the pacer clinic is not open. - Allowed access to the pneumatic tube station for the purpose of sending lab specimens and/or retrieving supplies. - Other duties as assigned. - Due to 24/7 operations, position may include mandatory participation in various schedules to include on call, day, evening, night, and/or weekend rotations or coverage. Education and Experience: - Successful completion of a Nursing Assistant training course or completion of 3 months of a healthcare program required. - Minimum of 3 months direct patient care experience acceptable in lieu of required education. - Minimum of 3 months experience as nursing assistant, student nurse, medic, EMT or similar experience. - Additional training/orientation will be provided to achieve desired level of competency. Licenses and Certifications: - Basic Life Support (BLS) Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider card required per established policy. - NCI certification.
