Job Summary The Institutional Research Analyst supports St. Cloud Technical & Community College’s research and institutional effectiveness activities. The Analyst collects, analyzes quantitative and qualitative academic, economic, enrollment, financial, and human resources data and synthesizes findings for a variety of internal and external audiences. The Analyst organizes information to support planning and decision making, and to evaluate the impact of activities or initiatives. The Analyst serves students, employees, and community members. Understanding and building relationships with these communities is an integral part of the Analyst’s work. The person in this position is an active participant in the life of the College. In their research work, the Analyst fosters equity, inclusion, and anti-racism by giving voice to diverse identities through means such as data disaggregation, contextualization, centering people of various identities, and participatory research and analysis projects with underrepresented and marginalized communities. Responsibilities and Results - Collect or retrieve data from a variety of sources, both internal (e.g., student information system) and external (e.g., Department of Employment and Economic Development). - Clean and prepare data for analysis. - Apply analytic and statistical methods to provide insights from data from a variety of sources. - Prepare reports, briefs, dashboards, or other deliverables to communicate analyses and findings to a variety of audiences. - Present results and findings to a variety of stakeholder audiences. - Assess the information and knowledge needs of stakeholders and design solutions that meet their needs. - Prioritize and respond to ad hoc data and analysis requests. - Consult stakeholders and provide design guidance for internally developed surveys, assessments, or other data and information projects. - Support administration of vendor-supplied surveys (e.g., Community College Survey of Student Engagement, HEDS Campus Climate, etc.) - Respond to external surveys as assigned (e.g., IPEDS, NC-SARA, or Military Times). - Document, update, and organize operational information concerning departmental procedures. - Propose solutions that enhance the department’s ability to serve stakeholders efficiently and effectively. - Collaborate with Information Technology to identify needs and design databases and related services that support the work of the department. - Perform other duties as assigned to support department or college goals and priorities. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications - 1 year experience working in quantitative data analysis or research; an associate degree could substitute for 6 months of this experience - Working knowledge of SQL or closely related query language - Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences - Ability to formulate solutions that meet the information and knowledge needs of stakeholders - Ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines Preferred Qualifications - Two years’ experience writing SQL queries or equivalent - Experience using R, Python, SPSS, SAS or equivalent. - Experience using Power BI products including desktop and report builder or equivalent (e.g., Crystal Reports, Cognos, or Tableau) - Experience with qualitative data collection and analysis Physical Requirements The person in this position must be able to be stationary for long periods of time, move short distances on a regular basis, travel to various locations to attend meetings and conduct work, operate an electronic keyboard or other office machines, file and pack materials, answer telephones and provide information, operate computer, communicate using the telephone and in person, and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
