The School of Theology and Seminary (SOT/Sem) at Saint John s University invites applications for the full-time (1.0 FTE), benefit-eligible position of Rector. The Rector coordinates and oversees the seminary program at SOT/Sem including its formation program for seminarians who are preparing for ordination in the Roman Catholic Church. The monastic priestly formation program integrates the USCCB s Program of Priestly Formation (PPF) with the Rule of Benedict (RB) with each of the four pillars of the PPF linked to parts of the RB. The rector is an ordained priest, appointed by the abbot in consultation with the dean of the School of Theology, and he facilitates healthy relations between the SOT/Sem and Saint John s Abbey (SJA). He reports to the dean of the SOT/Sem and collaborates with the vice-rector who supports formation classes. The rector ensures that the seminary formation program follows the expectations of the Roman Catholic Church, the policies of the Association of Theological Schools, the requirements of the School of Theology and Seminary, and the expectations of Saint John s Abbey. The rector is also a member of the SOT/Sem faculty, offering graduate courses in areas of his expertise and which advance the overall SOT/Sem curriculum. Direct the seminary s formation classes in collaboration with the vice-rector. Complete annual evaluations in coordination with formators and SOT/Sem faculty as well as other associated, administrative details such as boundary training and compliance. Serve as academic advisor to seminarians. Communicate regularly with the SOT/Sem Director for Ministerial Formation and Associate Dean. Serve as part of the SOT/Sem formation team which includes the Director of Ministerial Formation, Associate Director of Ministerial Formation as well as faculty members. Communicate with the Abbot of SJA about issues such as the Abbey s reputation, canonical and civil liabilities, and seminarian housing in the monastery. Collaborate with the SOT/Sem Director of Admissions on recruitment strategies, financial aid packages, and visits to religious houses. Represent the seminary at professional organizations such as the annual meetings of National Association of Theological Schools. Communicate with the Bishop of Saint Cloud and diocesan staff about Saint John s programming that supports the mission of the diocese or anything that may affect it.
