External Description Str : Full-time 80 hours every 2 weeks | Mon-Fri 8:00a-4:30p JOB SUMMARY: The Financial Counselor is responsible for working with patients virtually or in person to provide information regarding anticipated expenses, insurance coverage, payment options/resources and financial assistance programs. They should have in-depth knowledge of Medicaid and its affiliated programs so we can best meet the needs of our patients. The Financial Counselor should strive to handle accounts in ways that best affect patient experience and minimize bad debts. Supports and implements patient safety and other safety practices as appropriate. Supports and demonstrates Family Centered Care principles when interacting with patients, their families and with co-workers. "The thing I find most rewarding about my position is hearing and seeing the appreciation from the patients for helping them through a financial strain." ~Jay (Current Financial Counselor) "The best part about my job is letting a patient know they have been approved for insurance and knowing I was able to help them with their financial burdens." ~ Lynn (Current Financial Counselor) EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS: - Associate Degree in business or a healthcare related program or 2 years relevant healthcare or collection experience in lieu of education preferred. - HPE and MNsure Certification within 60 days of hire EXPERIENCE: - Experience with use of Microsoft Office applications, computer systems and software. QUALIFICATIONS: - Basic computer skills. - Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner with attention to detail and accuracy. - Ability to work independently. - Ability to research insurance. - Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. - Excellent communication, listening and negotiating skills and customer relations principles. - Strong written and verbal skills. - Strong interpersonal human relations skills. - Knowledge of billing and collection principles, including all applicable laws and regulations pertinent to healthcare collections is preferred. - Bi-lingual Spanish or Somali a plus.
