The work is completed in collaboration among three different roles: the (1) Rural Life, (2) Immigrant, and (3) Refugee Community Organizer. Some issues (i.e. isolation, exclusion, racism, language barriers, securing employment, housing, etc.) may be common to all communities this position serves, while others will be isolated to a particular community. The individuals in these positions will work towards empowering the vulnerable or marginalized in these communities to achieve social and economic change, primarily focusing on community organizing and advocacy for institutional change at system levels. Major Job Responsibilities: - Bring together groups of underserved people, community members and institutions to work together to achieve the common goals of meeting immediate needs, building community and addressing pertinent issues and their consequences. - Develop relationships in impoverished, immigrant and/or refugee communities and serves as a liaison with Parish Social Ministry teams, pastors and other faith leaders, local service providers and friends of the immigrant and refugee communities. - Promote education and awareness about relevant charity and justice issues, Catholic social teaching and leadership training by connecting with USCCB, Office of Migrant and Refugee Services, Lutheran Social Services, Justice for Immigrants (on national level), MN Catholic Conference and CCHD funded groups, as appropriate to work on issues of justice and institutional change. - Engage in one-on-one conversations to listen to the affected people/populations when they share their concerns in order to identify the issues that the affected people face and identify the venues that will allow for this interaction. Job Requirements: Education: Minimum of 2 years post high school required Job Related Experience: Any combination of training and or related work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties as described - requires 3 plus years of this training/work experience.
