The St. Cloud Building Safety Department is looking to hire an HVAC Inspector. The City of St. Cloud is accepting applications for the position of HVAC Inspector. There is currently one vacancy in the Building Safety Department. This is skilled inspection work in securing compliance with municipal ordinances and regulations governing the repair and installation of heating, ventilating, refrigeration, and air conditioning appliances. Work involves the responsibility for making inspections of all appliances, gas piping and duct installations for proper workmanship, materials and operating safety. Although new and difficult situations may be referred to a supervisor, the employee usually works independently in the field and is responsible for independent decisions requiring technical judgment. Work also involves the performance of inspections tasks in other construction fields as workloads in the department require. All work is performed under the general supervision of the Chief Building Official. Key Responsibilities : Reviews residential and commercial plans, construction documents, and permit applications to ensure adherence to applicable codes, regulations, and ordinances. Interprets and communicates code impacts, including prescriptive and performance-based design considerations. Reviews and approves or denies alternative design requests and deferred submittals. Conducts on-site inspections of materials and construction methods at various stages to verify compliance with approved codes and plans. Assists homeowners, contractors, engineers, and others in interpreting construction codes and in correcting violations. Issues correction orders, stop work notices, citations, and enforces compliance through documented corrective actions. Stays informed of updates to building codes, legislation, and industry standards. Attend City Board of Mechanical Installers meetings, acts as secretary and proctor for city testing for competency cards. Acts as back-up for the Plumbing Inspector. Performs other work as required and assigned.
