Details Posted: 09-Dec-23 Location: St. Joseph, MN Salary: Open Categories: Staff/Administrative Internal Number: 4308458 The Athletics Department at the College of Saint Benedict invites applicants for the full-time (.92 FTE), benefit-eligible position of Head Athletic Trainer. The Head Athletic Trainer is responsible for coordinating the overall sports medicine program and serving as the NCAA health care administrator. This includes injury prevention, evaluation, management and treatment of athletic injuries, short and long-term rehabilitation of athletic injuries, education and counseling of student-athletes. The Head Athletic Trainer is required to abide by rules and regulations established by the College of Saint Benedict, the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC), and NCAA (Division III). The College of Saint Benedict (CSB) is a liberal arts college for women located in the central lakes area of Minnesota. The campus is minutes away from St. Cloud, an increasingly diverse regional center with a population of over 100,000, and 70 miles from Minneapolis and St. Paul. Some CSB staff choose to reside locally, while others commute from the Twin Cities. Administrative Duties (50%) - Coordinate Certified Athletic Training staff coverage of team practices, daily treatments and athletic competitions. - Supervise Assistant ATCs and student employees. - Develop and maintain the ATC section for of the athletic department manual and student sports medicine policy manual. - Develop, plan and execute annual budgets, capital equipment and improvement requests. - Oversee the care and maintenance of all training room equipment and facility. - Coordinate and communicate key information within HIPPA/FERPA guidelines to athletes, parents, coaches, administration and health services department in a timely and quality manner. Assist with the collection, organization and maintenance of all student-athlete medical records, which include review of physicals forms, medical history, insurance, and HIPPA, Sickle Cell, and concussion information along with all other medical paperwork student-athletes required by the NCAA and MIAC for participation in intercollegiate athletics. - Attend Athletic Department and campus all-staff meetings. - Attend/participate in professional development and implement industry best-practices, including MIAC policies from bi-yearly MIAC Athletic Trainers meetings. - Establish, regularly review, and enforce a medical emergency action plan for athletic teams in conjunction with the Team Physician(s), area emergency medical services, and on campus security at both CSB and SJU. - Work in partnership with SJU Sports Medicine Staff to coordinate care for CSB athletes on the SJU campus and event coverage during shared events. - Maintain annual registration and certification requirements as defined annually by the National Athletic Trainers Board of Medical Practice and the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice. Athletic Training Duties (45%) - Provide athletic training services under the direction of the Team Physician(s) per Board of Medical Practice protocols that includes medical prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of student-athletes. - Work with campus and outside partners (if applicable) on the implementation of concussion return to learn and return to play policies. - Attend scheduled team practices, home and away competitions, and host visiting teams according to CSB, MIAC and NCAA policies. - Coordinate and refer student-athletes to the appropriate health care providers, including physicians, dentists, ophthalmologists, etc. - Report status of injured student-athletes within HIPPA/FERPA guidelines to coaching staff and determine student-athlete's ability to practice and/or compete. - Work in conjunction with the Strength and Conditioning Coach in the development of programs for strength, conditioning, flexibility, nutrition, supplements/ergogenic aids, injury prevention, exercise technique, and rehab of injuries. - Educate student-athletes on the Division III NCAA Drug Testing, Banned substances, and Concussion polices on an annual basis. Additional Duties (5%) - Participate in and support department fundraisers. - Recognize and understand gender differences and apply that knowledge in shaping positive & effective approaches to working with college-age women. - Be knowledgeable of the college's commitment to Benedictine Values and support those values. - Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics. - Bachelor's degree - Certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) - Current CPR/AED Certification - Eligible to be registered by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice - Excellent organizational, oral, written, electronic communication and presentation skills - 3+ years of previous experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer Physical Requirements: - Job requires lifting of 20 pounds or more. - Job requires physical assessment of student-athlete injuries (examples: muscle stretching, assisting students off the field/court, etc.) Travel Requirements: - The Head Athletic Trainer will be required to cover, or arrange coverage for, all home athletic events required under conference bylaws. - The Head Athletic Trainer will travel to post-season competition with high-risk and/or team sports. - The Head Athletic Trainer will either travel with or assign an ATC to cover all international travel and/or all foreign tours for varsity intercollegiate teams.
