Ferche Millwork is seeking an ambitious and independent individual to join our team as a forklift driver in our shipping department who will also work as a back-up truck driver. Candidates must have a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) and operate equipment, both forklift and 18-wheeler tractor trailers, in a safe and efficient manner. This is a full-time position where duties will be split between operating the forklift and driving truck as back-up for current drivers. This position may transition to full-time truck driving when current driver's move towards retirement. SUMMARY: Work with limited supervision in a team environment and perform many duties assigned by the supervisor. Drives propane powered forklift to transport, load / unload incoming and outgoing freight. Drives diesel powered tractor trailer combination to transport and deliver products and materials to customers. Assumes responsibility of positions assigned, performs duties in a safe &efficient manner. Maintains communications associated with activities of the department and employee relationships supporting company goals. ESSENTIAL DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES: Operate forklift safely and efficiently following all work rules and safe operating procedures while indoors under space constraints. Assist all other forklift drivers when time permits and be the backup for them when absent. Load products onto outgoing trucks for shipment. Plan and organize shipping building floor space to accommodate inventories such as staged items, stock items, kitted jamb sets, etc. Assumes full responsibility to maintain quality and minimize the damage to finished goods during the transporting process, loading and unloading of material for shipping. Inspects incoming freight, inspecting for quantities, condition of freight and reports all inaccuracies and damage to management. Performs stacking and banding functions, stacking stock bundles and other staged bundles and securing bundles for transporting. Operates scanners for picking orders, moving items, and adjusting inventory. Performs reading and writing functions, interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, loading schedules, freight slips, and inventory and sales order notes. Takes material to destinations and may have backhauls on returning. Communicating and coordinating with supervisor. Planning routes and meeting delivery schedules. Obeying and following applicable traffic laws. Maintains driver log per federal regulations including the ELD system. Securing cargo and properly arranging and balancing it within the vehicle. Assists workers in loading and unloading truck. Inspects truck for defects before and after trips and reports to supervisor any issues with the truck or trailers condition. Will need to do minor truck and trailer maintenance. Schedules all maintenance for tractor and trailer including yearly DOT inspections, oil changes, and get any other issues that would arise fixed. Housekeeping functions, maintaining clean traffic or road ways through shipping and around loading docks, auto stack, and large entry doors. Communicate effectively with management and co-workers. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, drive and climb up and down off forklift, occasionally walk, stoop, bend and kneel. Able to enter and exit equipment by stepping and kneeling; and be able to crouch and squat for truck and trailer inspections. The employee must regularly lift materials up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Ability to sit and drive for long periods of time. Must be able to pass a Department of Transportation physical and drug test. EDUCATION AND/OREXPERIENCE: Highschool diplomaor general education degree (GED); or one to three months job relatedexperience and/or training. Must have a validCDL and clean driving record. REQUIREMENTS: - Good attendance and clean driving record. - Ability to operate forklift and truck/trailer safely and determine when maintenance is needed. - Ability to operate scanners for picking order, moving items, & adjusting inventory. - Ability to work well with others, work as a team member and have good communication skills. Be self-motivated, quality conscious, have a positive attitude. - Basic math skills: add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. - Possess a strong mechanical aptitude and able to use hand tools, read sales order notes, scanners, equipment and safety manuals and measuring instruments. - Be willing to perform other duties as needed. Able to work overtime as needed to complete jobs on time to meet truck schedules. - Ability to pass a DOT pre-employment drug screen. Wages starting at $20/hour.
