Clinical Director Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Leadership ELLISON CENTER | CENTRAL MINNESOTA EMPLOYMENT Full-time, exempt COMPENSATION $100,000–$110,000, based on experience and qualifications REPORTS TO Executive Director SCHEDULE Primarily Monday to Friday, with meaningful flexibility WORK MODEL Hybrid: office, community and remote LOCATION Central Minnesota (St. Cloud and Little Falls) Ellison Center is seeking a skilled, relational Clinical Director to provide clinical stewardship during an important period of stabilization, renewal and thoughtful growth. This is an opportunity for an experienced clinician-leader to provide clinical stewardship to strengthen systems, support an exceptional team and expand access to high-quality infant and early childhood mental health services across Central Minnesota. The Clinical Director leads with reflection, clarity and respect for the realities of clinical work. The role combines supervision, quality leadership, service development and a manageable direct-service caseload. Ellison Center is committed to building this position in a way that supports sound practice, realistic workloads and the long-term well-being of the person who accepts it. ABOUT ELLISON CENTER Ellison Center is seeking a Clinical Director, also known in the field as a Director of Clinical Services, Clinical Supervisor or Behavioral Health Clinical Director, to lead clinical operations for its infant and early childhood mental health and community mental health programs in St. Cloud and Central Minnesota. The ideal candidate holds independent clinical licensure as an LICSW (Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker), LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist), LPCC (Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor) or LP (Licensed Psychologist), with an IMH-E (Infant Mental Health Endorsement) or active progress toward one strongly preferred. This role provides reflective supervision and reflective consultation to a clinical team delivering Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), dyadic therapy, perinatal mental health services and early childhood assessment using tools such as the DSM-5-TR, DC:0-5 and ECSII. THE ROLE The Clinical Director is the senior clinical leader at Ellison Center and a member of the leadership team, responsible for clinical quality, supervision systems, ethical practice and the continued development of services. The position works in close partnership with the Executive Director, the Regulatory Compliance Manager, program leads and administrative staff. It is not designed to carry every operational function alone; responsibilities are clearly shared, sequenced and supported. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES Clinical Leadership and Reflective Supervision - Provide clinical leadership that protects quality, ethical practice and the dignity of clients, caregivers and staff. - Serve as the board-approved supervisor of record, as appropriate, for pre-licensed clinicians, trainees and interns. - Provide regular reflective supervision and maintain a consistent, developmentally informed supervision structure across the clinical team. - Support recruitment, onboarding, retention and professional growth, including advancement toward licensure, Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Endorsement and evidence-based practice competencies. - Lead performance conversations that are clear, fair and growth-oriented, with attention to strengths, workload and professional goals. - Participate in regular reflective supervision or consultation and maintain ongoing professional development, including continuing education required by the applicable licensing board. Clinical Quality, Compliance and Systems - Help cultivate a workplace that honors clinicians’ professional expertise and ensures operational decisions reflect the realities of clinical care. - Partner with the Regulatory Compliance Manager to maintain clinical policies, training, documentation standards and quality assurance systems. - Clarify and document shared responsibility for compliance, billing, credentialing and grant requirements, so accountability is strong without being concentrated in one role. - Ensure services meet applicable legal, ethical, licensing, payer and grant requirements. - Support sound use of DSM-5-TR, DC:0-5, ECSII and other approved assessment and diagnostic tools. - Work with billing, credentialing and EHR staff to improve workflows, resolve barriers and support accurate, timely documentation. - Use quality improvement practices to strengthen client outcomes, staff experience and organizational learning. Service Development and Organizational Leadership - Partner with the Executive Director and clinical team to plan, evaluate and strengthen services in alignment with Ellison Center’s mission and strategic priorities. - Help develop practical strategies to reduce the waitlist and expand access without compromising care quality or staff sustainability. - Use service and outcome data to identify strengths, gaps and opportunities for improvement. - Contribute clinical expertise to grant development, reporting, community partnerships and resource planning, as invited. Direct Clinical Services - Maintain a focused clinical caseload that sustains connection to practice while preserving leadership capacity. - Begin with a reduced caseload, moving toward an expected range of approximately 10 to 12 billable clinical hours per week as organizational needs and leadership workload allow. - Provide ethical, culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate services consistent with professional licensure and Ellison Center standards. - Maintain timely documentation and coordinate referrals when families need services beyond Ellison Center’s scope. WHAT SUCCESS WILL LOOK LIKE - Clinicians experience leadership as collaborative, transparent and respectful of their expertise. - Clinical staff have dependable supervision, clear escalation pathways and meaningful support for professional growth. - Roles across clinical leadership, compliance, billing and credentialing are clearly documented and workable. - The Clinical Director’s caseload and leadership duties remain sustainable rather than expanding through unchecked accumulation. - Ellison Center makes measurable progress on access, waitlist management and staff retention. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - Master’s degree in social work, marriage and family therapy, counseling, psychology or a related clinical field. - Current Minnesota independent clinical licensure as an LICSW, LMFT, LPCC or LP. - Current Board-Approved Supervisor status, or the ability to obtain it promptly. - At least five years of clinical experience with children and families, including meaningful experience in infant or early childhood mental health. - Demonstrated ability to supervise clinicians and support reflective, relationship-based practice. - Working knowledge of Minnesota statutes, ethical requirements, documentation standards and third-party billing. - Commitment to culturally responsive care, equity, inclusion and respectful leadership across diverse communities. - Ability to pass required background checks and to travel locally as needed. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Endorsement, or active progress toward it. - Three or more years of clinical supervision experience. - Experience with dyadic treatment and early childhood assessment. - Training in one or more relevant approaches such as Child-Parent Psychotherapy, Circle of Security, Theraplay, Reflective Consultation or perinatal mental health. - Experience leading quality improvement, program evaluation, clinical operations or organizational change. - Experience in a nonprofit, community mental health or grant-supported setting. OUR COMMITMENT TO THE PERSON IN THIS ROLE Ellison Center recognizes that clinical leadership roles can become unsustainable when every unresolved need is assigned to one person. This position is built differently. Priorities are sequenced, the caseload ramps gradually and responsibility for compliance, billing, credentialing and operations is shared with the appropriate team members. The Clinical Director has regular access to the Executive Director, reflective consultation and the information needed to make sound decisions. Ellison Center expects accountability, good judgment and strong leadership, and in return offers clarity, partnership and respect for boundaries. The goal is for this person to succeed here for the long term. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS - Annual salary of $100,000 to $110,000, based on experience, licensure, supervisory qualifications and specialized expertise. - Employer-sponsored group health coverage through BenefitsMN, supported by Gallagher. - Retirement contributions, paid time off and paid holidays. - Flexible hybrid work, with in-person presence determined by program needs, plus regular reflective supervision and professional development support to deepen IECMH expertise.
