Position Summary The institutional Research Department at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), benefit eligible position of Analytics Engineer. Seeking a creative and result-oriented Analytics Engineer to join the Institutional Research (IR) team at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University (CSB and SJU). The Engineer will be a key leader on the IR team supporting the advancement of emerging institutional data and analytics initiatives. The engineer will be the primary resource on the IR team to assist with development of the necessary back-end reporting layer to support data analytics and visualization efforts. Responsibilities - Lead the development of end-to-end analytics solutions within a higher education setting that directly support strategic priorities at CSB and SJU. - Serve as primary liaison with the IT Services team to support the development of data pipelines that will transform institutional data from disparate systems and data from external sources into a centralized data store that will support institutional reporting & analytic needs. - Lead development and application of modern analytic tools to support research activities within the IR office based on best practices. - Working alongside IT Services, serve as a primary resource on the IR team to assist with development and implementation of a modernized institutional data & reporting platform utilizing the emerging Microsoft Fabric ecosystem. - Serve as a key stakeholder and resource on data governance & security initiatives. - Work closely with business users and stakeholders to understand their analytic needs in support of initiatives to enhance institutional effectiveness. Translate those needs into technical requirements for business intelligence solutions that can be developed in collaboration with the rest of the IR team. - Lead creation of data models for end users’ self-service reporting & analysis. - Develop the necessary reporting infrastructure to automate reporting for the institutional leadership team utilizing census and live data from systems across campuses to support institutional Key Performance Indicator monitoring. - Keep updated on emerging technologies and actively explore their application to analytics initiatives at CSB and SJU - Perform ad hoc analysis in support of institutional strategic initiatives. - Train end users in the appropriate use and interpretation of data models and visualization tools. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in data science, analytics; or equivalent education and experience. - 5 years of applied experience in data analysis & visualization. - Demonstrated experience utilizing modern data stack tools (preferably within the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem). - Demonstrated experience with data transformation, analysis, and visualization tools (e.g. Python, SPSS, Power BI, Tableau, SQL, etc.). - Ability to communicate with a broad range of technical and non-technical stakeholders to assess analytic requirements to support development of effective solutions. - Working knowledge of data pipeline development processes. - Direct experience with data infrastructure strategies. - Strong interpersonal skills. Physical Requirements: - Significant keyboard and computer use, prolong sitting, and occasional standing. Travel Requirements: - Some travel between the campuses of the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University. - Ability to travel domestically for professional development activities for up to a total of one week per year.
