PAY: $31.00/HR Job Summary Responsible for all day-to-day operations of the Wastewater Treatment Plant including, but not limited to, equipment operation, scheduling sanitation/cleaning, data analysis, daily reporting and operator care. Responsible for maintaining a variety of WWTP equipment and instruments including but not limited to pumps, valves, tanks, motors, gearboxes, blowers, clarifiers, aeration basins, mixers, agitators, and the centrifuge. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Operates the WWWTP adjusting needed to produce effluent quality that is within the limits set by Land O’Lakes and Minnesota Pollution Control Agency state requirements (includes startup, setup, operation, shutdown). - Develops the daily operating strategy and communicates this strategy with other operators providing after hours coverage. - Maintains the lab and performs all pretreatment plant laboratory tests. - Performs calculations. - Use laboratory test results for determining process strategies making data driven decisions. - Documents all meter readings and maintains accurate records. - Understands and communicates all pertinent aspects of the operation and performance of the WWTP to plant operations daily - Drafts, updates and executes WWTP standard operating procedures and lockout procedures - Communicates WWTP operational performance progress and issues to management. Participates in all WWTP system evaluations. - Orders/manages chemical inventory. - LEAN Manufacturing – Contribute to a continuous improvement environment by participating in activities to include line side problem solving. - Participate in 5S program to contribute to a safe and organized work environment. - Actively participate in team safety efforts. - Actively contribute to a behavioral based safety culture by completing a minimum of one behavioral observation (BOS) per month. - Work in partnership with QA and Operations associates to address any identified process or environmental issues. - Maintain the grounds: mowing grass, weeding, trim shrubs, salting, de-icing, snow removal, irrigation system maintenance, etc. - Troubleshoot & perform preventive maintenance (PM) on equipment. Make necessary repairs & adjustments on machines & equipment during production to minimize downtime and maximize equipment efficiency - Operator care of cleaning and calibration of instrumentation - Read and understand operating manuals - Complete maintenance work orders as assigned - Follow-up on current status of equipment modifications, work orders and PM’s. - Upgrade skills as required due to improvements &/or changes in technology. - Other duties as assigned by management - Interpret WW operating data to make sound operating adjustments - Complete compliance reports for biosolids generated from the facility - Help develop operating guides and training materials for WW Operations as well as at the production plant. - Contact 3rd party firms to support with troubleshooting and controls adjustments. - Participate in WW projects - Learn the practices of sludge disposal, including communications with contract land applicator, application planning, record keeping and reporting - Communicated daily with Production, sanitation, Maintenance, sludge haulers, and other functions necessary to support the Melrose facility. - Follows guidance and supports Lead Operator/Technician Education and Experience: - High School diploma or equivalent - 2 or 4 year post-secondary education in engineering or related field is preferred - Current MPCA issued WWT Facility Operator Certificate (preferred) or will be required to obtain within one year. - Candidate must possess a minimum of 3 years of industrial experience in any of the following areas: - Pneumatics - Mechanical - General maintenance work - 2+ years of industrial manufacturing experience preferred - Previous wastewater pretreatment experience preferred - Previous grounds and facility maintenance preferred Requirements: - Ability to work in and independent manner and in a safe and efficient manner. - Ability to read and write effectively in English (required to read and understand operating manuals). - Ability to read flow meters, pH meters, scales, thermometers and other monitoring equipment. - Ability to contribute in a team work environment. - Ability to perform basic math equations. - Ability to utilize computers and software programs proficiently. - Ability to communicate effectively to ensure escalation of potential concerns to the next level. - Ability to perform problems solving skills, apply creating thinking, use resources and make effective decisions and implement corrective actions. - Ability to train others in the safe and effective operation of the WWTP. - Ability to contribute to a safe and organized work environment. - Ability to work variable shifts, weekends, and/or holidays. - Ability to meet the physical demands of the position outlined in the Physical Demands Analysis. - Ability to learn new skills and adapt to change as the organization continues to improve processes. - Ability to draw conclusions based on analysis of data from multiple sources. - Understanding of the importance of meeting customer, statutory and regulatory requirements. - Maintain prompt and regular job attendance. - Safety leader & advocate of safe work procedures - Actively participate in team safety efforts to achieve/exceed plant goals. - Required to perform all duties safely & use discretion to prevent injuries to self and/or others. - Able to lift 50 pounds frequently - Must be able to work extended hours (more than 8 hours per day) - Ability to communicate effectively to ensure escalation of potential concerns to the next level - Ability to perform problem solving skills, apply creative thinking, use resources, and make effective decisions and implement corrective actions - Must have the ability to utilize computers and ability to perform duties as applicable above via computer - Ability to utilize Catalyst, write work orders, complete PMs, and complete requisitions for parts and supplies. - Ability to utilize WIMS effectively - Obtain MN WW Operators certification within 2 years of taking position Location city, state : Hours: Wage: 31.00 Land O’Lakes, Inc offers a competitive salary and bonus potential.
