Doherty Career Solutions is partnering with a local St. Cloud, MN client as they search for a Staff Accountant to join the growing team! The Staff Accountant is an entry-level to three-year experienced person who works in a team environment in our not-for-profit/government audit department. The Staff Accountant will be a fully integrated audit team member that works closely with audit clients and personnel. The position is a full time, M-F, 8:00am-5:00pm role with a competitive package and opportunity for advancement. Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Work on assigned segments of audit or accounting engagements, in some instances assuming substantial responsibility (under supervision) for small accounting engagements involving assurance services, compiled, reviewed, and audited financial statements. - Stay up to date on Firm policies, procedures, and the AICPA and MNCPA society's rules, regulations, and Code of Ethics. - Monitor and communicate the progress of engagements concerning budgets and due dates. - Regularly read and be familiar with pronouncements from the AICPA and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB). - Responsible for understanding the interrelationship of accounts within transaction cycles to appropriately apply audit procedures. - Apply understanding of the complete audit cycle from planning to deliverables and executes appropriate methodologies and audit procedures. - Analyzes financial information and prepares basic financial statements (including footnotes). - Communicate client concerns/problems to appropriate team member(s) and provide input for appropriate response, if needed. Qualifications: - BA/BS Accounting Degree. - 0-3 years of experience in public accounting or financial services. - Working to obtain CPA license or is eligible and plans to sit for and pass CPA examination preferred. - Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. - Ability to learn new software and feels highly proficient in Microsoft Office software applications. Experience and working knowledge of QuickBooks accounting software is preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities: - Ability to work in a team-oriented environment. - Ability to operate independently and self-manage projects. - Ability to adapt to different personalities and working styles. - Ability to manage computer software tools. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times. - Maintain a high level of organization.
