Description JOB FUNCTION Responsible to organize, delegate, monitor and deliver resident care. Performs nursing procedures and related functions. RESPONSIBILITIES Functions within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act, utilizing recognized standards of clinical practice, as defined by the State of Minnesota. Responsible for all prescribed medication and nursing treatments. Properly sets up medication, administers, and records medication/treatments. Checks medication/treatment orders to make sure documentation is complete on all documents. Responsible to organize and monitor resident care. Gives and receives complete report on residents to nursing personnel. Assesses resident conditions and makes recommendations. Makes rounds of all residents to ensure needs are being met and care are being given. Orders medication and receives medication and records them promptly and accurately. Performs nursing procedures and related functions. Notifies supervisor and calls physician for change in condition and advice in resident care. In the event of a change in condition, notifies the resident, physician, family/legal representative and clergy. Makes arrangements for doctor’s visits pr clinic appointments as necessary. Responsible for weekly and daily charting. Arrange transfers to hospital, when needed. Counts narcotics at beginning and end of shift as needed and reports any irregularities to supervisor. Monitors daily weight and BP’s. Assists with feeding of residents as needed. Administers IV, IV medications and draws blood for lab work as needed. Coordinates day to day resident care needs with physician and IDP team. May attend resident care conference as needed. Personnel Functions. Assists new nursing personnel to learn procedures, policies and concepts of care. Evaluates and completes staff evaluations. Recognizes and follows up on all staff performance in a timely fashion. Delegates and coaches staff on an ongoing basis. Works with Case Managers and Household Coordinators on theses matters as needed. Addresses corrective action process with staff, if necessary, according to policy. Works with Human Resources, Case Managers and Household Coordinators as needed. Assumes duties of RN Nursing Supervisor if scheduled RN Supervisor is not available for duty. Must respond to emergencies. Maintains up to date knowledge of all fire, safety and weather procedures. Directs staff in correct procedures and notifies assigned personnel in the case of emergency. Responds or assigns licensed personnel to answer emergency calls from all apartment buildings per policy. Attends nursing meetings as scheduled. Performs other duties as assigned by the Nursing Supervisor. ATTENDANCE Maintains proper attendance and punctuality to help ensure Good Shepherd is operated in an efficient and effective manner. Maintains proper attendance in accordance with Good Shepherd’s policy. Reports to work on time in accordance with Good Shepherd’s policy. Provides adequate notice to supervisory personnel before absence or lateness in accordance with department policy. SAFETY Maintains and promotes a safe work environment. Demonstrates understanding of and ability to follow infection control, safety, and emergency policy and procedures. Refer to/review emergency preparedness manual and infection control policies. GENERAL Displays positive work habits that improve productivity of employees and function. Demonstrates willingness to accept new projects or assignments. Willingly assists other co-workers. Adheres to Good Shepherd’s dress code policy. Work center is organized and neat at all times. Plans daily workload to insure tasks completed. Open to new projects/assignments as identified.
