Position Summary The Network Administrator is responsible for managing the overall network connectivity for CSB/SJU and related constituents, including the proper design, installation, configuration, security, and maintenance of network-related equipment and systems. This position monitors LAN/WAN performance, as well as configures and implements network-wide security measures. Reporting to the Assistant Director Systems and Infrastructure, this position exists to support and maintain high levels of network performance, reliability, and security. Responsibilities - Responsible for the installation, configuration, security, and maintenance of the institutions’ wired, wireless, and wide-area networks, manages LAN/WAN performance and security. This position will also be responsible for collaborating in the design of the overall architecture. - Manages topologies, transports, and protocols; explores available data communications methods and evaluates these alternatives with users, consultants, and vendors. Researches and recommends the use of new products and services to management. - Administrates network monitoring systems; Monitors network performance to gather and maintain usage statistics on a regular basis; monitors network traffic and projects growth for capacity planning. Utilizes these systems, statistics, and logs to make recommendations for improvements to the environment. - Evaluates, designs, documents, tests, implements, and maintains WAN and LAN security systems. Develops and follows standard security practices regarding network and operating system security. Explores available security methods and equipment and evaluates these alternatives with users, vendors, and consultants. Coordinates and collaborates with server group, client group, and consultants about operating systems security. - Administrates network systems such as firewalls and intrusion detection systems. - Creates and maintains complete operating system, network, and hardware documentation. - Serves on the secondary After-Hours Emergency IT Support Team during time assigned to respond to emergency service requests as defined in the After-Hours Emergency IT Support policy. Improves technical skills and knowledge especially in the networking and security environment. - Performs other assigned duties as assigned. Qualifications 1. Two-year degree in information systems, computer science, or related field; plus a minimum of two years of technology experience in network administration; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor's degree in information technology or related field preferred. 2. Experience in managing networking protocols and operating systems, as well as scripting or programming experience: specifically, TCP/IP, SNMP, UNIX (Linux), current Windows operating systems, Bash, PHP, and/or Python. 3. Experience with wireless architecture, implementation, and administration. 4. Experience in creating and implementing proper security practices, specifically network security. 5. Experience with configuring, monitoring, and managing enterprise firewalls and intrusion detection systems. 6. Ability to explain the techniques, concepts and procedures involved with networked hardware and software to a wide range of users for training and problem?solving situations. 7. Strong written communication skills sufficient to write, prepare, and edit materials such as memos, procedures, reports, presentations, etc., using correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, and sentence construction and clearly explaining complex technical ideas and procedures to varied technical and non-technical audiences. 8. Customer services skills sufficient to actively listen to and understand customer needs and provide accurate information and appropriate alternatives in a timely, thorough, courteous, respectful, and professional manner in person, over the phone and in writing. 9. Strong ability to set clearly defined, attainable expectations to team members, and provide mentoring and coaching. 10. Ability to work with minimal supervision, under multiple deadlines, and with a strong attention to detail. A wide degree of creativity and self-motivation is expected. 11. A willingness to improve his/her computing skills and knowledge. This includes attending training seminars and self-study. 12. Ability to work a flexible schedule in order to meet operational needs. This includes responding to after-hours/emergency service requests which may require working some evenings and weekends. ADDITIONAL REQUISITES: 1.
