If this position is not filled via bid or voluntary transfer, the position will be filled by competition through this job announcement. **Job Summary** **Examples of work for this specific vacancy include but are not limited to:** **_Transportation Specialist (TS) Function: Materials_** * Verifies, records and prioritizes incoming material samples. * Performs, directs the performance or monitors the performance of all aspects of standardized and specific materials testing. * Conducts or directs difficult, non-routine tests for special studies, circumstances and investigations. * Performs calculations, generates and distributes reports providing required documentation on test processes and results. * Completes analysis and interpretation of test results to determine if additional testing is required, materials meet specifications and tolerances. * Maintains, tests and calibrates and documents materials lab equipment. * Performs technical certification program training for agency and external personnel. * Assists Lab Supervisor with ASSHTO: resource lab accreditation. **_Transportation Generalist Senior (TGS) Function: Materials_** * Verifies and records incoming material samples. * Conducts all aspects of standardized and specific materials lab testing. * Performs difficult, non-routine materials tests for special studies, circumstances and investigations. * Calculates test results and inputs data to generate standardized reports. * Performs preliminary analysis of test results. * Maintains, and assists in the testing and calibration of materials lab equipment. * Assists in the delivery of technical certification program training. * Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications **Minimum Qualifications:** **The level of experience to perform this job at the Transportation Specialist level can be achieved with: ** * Four years of experience performing materials testing OR * Three years of experience performing materials testing and one (1) year of experience in any roadway construction, engineering support or roadways maintenance areas. * Note: A Two year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or the following four-year degrees: Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics; or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience. (In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts). * Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records. **Certifications:** * Aggregate Production * Level 1 Grading and Base * Level 1 Bituminous Plant * Level 1 Concrete Plant * Level 1 Concrete Field * Concrete Strength: Within 1 year of employment * Level 1 Bituminous Street:Within 1 year of employment **License:** * A valid Class D License **The level of experience to perform this job at the Transportation Generalist Senior level can be achieved with:** * Two (2) years of experience performing materials testing OR * One (1) year of experience performing materials testing or related activities and one year in construction inspection. * Note: A Two year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or the following four-year degrees: Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics; or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience.
