Responsibilities: •Assesses equipment, structures, materials, and job specifications for appropriate welding positions and methods •Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements) •Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded •Align components using callipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces •Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead) •Trims metal components using heat, fire, and electricity •Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps •Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws •Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety •Uses electricity and torches to produce heat and solder together components made from steel, titanium, copper, and other metals •Monitors equipment for appropriate usage and temperature •Maintains a thorough knowledge of universal standards and specifications in order to meet building codes and legal requirements •Monitors work environment for hazards and maintains healthy ventilation levels to avoid particle or gas inhalation •Follows safety protocol, including wearing heat-resistant gloves, protective masks, and safety shoes. Requirements: •Proven experience as welder •Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MMA etc.) •Mechanical inclination or a thorough understanding of heavy machinery. •Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, callipers etc.) •Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings •Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.) •Deftness and attention to detail •Relevant welder or welding fabricator certifications •Knowledge of chemistry and metallurgy •Understanding of electricity •Attention to detail ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: The work environment and physical working characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
