Description Employee will be responsible for being an expert in machining as well as leading the shop in production, quality, and safety outputs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 50% - Machining - Trains, sets-up, runs and programs a variety of machines that include: CNC, NC, production porting equipment, lathes, vertical mills, grinders, deburring, and cleaning equipment. - Runs multiple machines as required by process or as directed - Leads and trains on shop organized programming efforts considering tool paths, speeds, and feeds to obtain the most effective use of machine tooling life and cycle time - Performs and trains on complex set-ups on all shop CNC machine tools - Identifies and leads fixture and tooling projects needed for new or existing product - Produces product on CNC or manual machines to meet or exceed the requirements of department standards. - Documents and communicates any inconsistencies or changes of standard run times to support personnel using process change forms. - Leads and trains on operator level maintenance by ensuring all machines are being maintained - Leads the efforts of total quality and process improvement by recommending methods, equipment, techniques and other changes to improve machine shop operations through active participation in Process Improvement Teams or meetings - Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications. - Performs work in a safe manner by following all safety rules, and insuring safety guards are in place on all machines. - Trains all employees on operator level quality using various inspection tools and the operator self inspect system 50% - Leadership - Direct personnel and prioritize work based on effective communication with department and Managers/Supervisors. - Setup, troubleshoot, operate, maintain and train employees on machines and equipment within the Department - Obey all safety rules and stop work if continuing is unsafe or will create an unsafe condition. Report safety concerns immediately. Generate and communicate Safety Sirens internal and external - Take initiative and make decisions based on known policies and procedures with minimal supervision - Follow up on every NCMR in area of responsibility - Communicate issues to employees, other leads, or other shifts as necessary. - Be main point of contact for questions involving prints, programs, tools, setups and machine maintenance. - Maintain quality and maximum efficiency - Share responsibility with other leaders of the security of the building i.e. close and open the building - Support other areas when manager or leads are absent - Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor
