Description The Lab Technician's primary responsibilities include documentation review and performing a variety of standard microbiological, chemical and physical or sensory testing and assays. Essential Responsibilities: This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time. + Conduct routine analysis on finished product samples according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and customer requirements, using lab instruments, proper laboratory techniques and following Good Laboratory Practices (GLP ). + Participate in investigations on improvement projects (e.g. holds, consumer complaints). Assists with identifying the root cause, corrective actions and monitors for effectiveness. + Communicate out-of-specification product results to QA Manager. + Calibrate, maintain, and follow quality control of lab equipment according to SOPs. + Keep organized laboratory records and files. Ensures compliance to procedures and work instructions. + Ensures accurate documentation of laboratory and quality records in compliance with SOPs including storage and retrieval of records. + Support laboratory activities to ensure that a high quality of products, services, housekeeping, and hygiene standards are maintained and improved in laboratory and other analytical areas. + Supports laboratory compliance including calibration, equipment testing, etc. to Safe Quality Food (SQF) and AMPI requirements. + Adhere to all Quality and Food Safety policies and procedures, reporting any nonconformity. + Adhere to all Safety policies and procedures, reporting any nonconformity. + Adhere to all GMP policies and procedures, reporting any nonconformity. + Support adherence of GMPs throughout the plant. + Other duties as assigned. Education / Experience: + High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). + Food manufacturing experience preferred. + Prior laboratory experience preferred. + Prior experience in the dairy or cheese industry is preferred. + Knowledge of HACCP, GMP's, OSHA and loss control programs is highly desirable. Manufacturing - Employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock, wet work conditions, fumes or airborne particles. Employee is occasionally exposed to warm conditions with regular exposure to temperature conditions in excess of 100*F or cold temperatures when working in cold storage areas. The employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. Employee is regularly exposed to chemicals during sanitation processes. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally at a high level. The employee is not routinely exposed to weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to very low levels of ammonia. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - Personal protective equipment is required depending on the job being performed, including protective eye wear, or face shields, hearing protection, hair and beard nets, uniforms and footwear.
