GENERAL SUMMARY Responsible for managing our Technical Service activities, resources and product(s) maintenance. This role will assure product continuation, CAD and Special Order Engineering (SOE) excellence through workload balance, necessary cross training and focus to achieve design accuracy and product improvement initiatives. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS) Management of Continuation Engineering, CAD and SOE processes and procedures to improve quality, cost, delivery & safety activities. Responsible for selection and purchase of engineering hardware & software systems, maintenance contracts and annual budgets. Manage product change activities, production improvements and cost reductions (including off shore sourcing) with Product Data schedule to meet the company s goals and objectives. Management of manpower planning and prioritization to ensure balanced workloads. Manages project planning and structure of engineering student internship programs. Management of the special-order design team to assure order accuracy, efficiency and timeliness to meet business unit needs. Coordinate standardization and cost reduction projects which involve product line extensions of re-engineered products and new product introductions. Assure design, product & product changes maintenance adhere to engineering standards. Maintain department metrics and support process change to meet the business needs. Leadership of engineering programs to support shop floor, field service, marketing, sales and product data required timeliness needs. Management of the PDM, CAD systems and 2D drawing/3D layout CAD databases. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE BS Degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred) or a Technical degree and a minimum of 10 years of applicable technical managerial experience. Experience managing engineers including completion of their performance reviews. Product design experience, including basic understanding of metal castings and precision machining of castings. Demonstrated experience in global industry standards, including ANSI, API, and AWWA and NSF and ISO 9000 requirements for design control and documentation. Requires comprehensive knowledge of engineering tools including 3D SolidWorks and 2D Autocad CAD software. Requires experience that shows the ability to be accurate and thorough, to be able to handle several tasks at any time, to be able to work well with people from various areas and to plan and coordinate work with other areas. Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma training and successful use of the concepts is desirable. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Normal office environment. Factory floor support is imperative. WORKING CONDITIONS Normal working conditions. Travel may be required to resolve product issues and to support cost reduction/product outsourcing initiatives.
