Summary Incumbent is responsible for the total care of all elevators at the St. Cloud VA Health Care System (VAHCS) to include servicing two types of elevators: hydraulic and traction. Also, he/she will assist in the total installation and setup of new elevator units. This position is located in the Facilities Management Service Line. Responsibilities Major duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following: Inspects and keeps records of contract work regarding the installation of new elevators. Works directly with maintenance workers to address elevator repair needs. Serves as in an advisory capacity in the training for a back-up elevator mechanic. Accountable for the security of all tools and equipment. Operates a government vehicle. Performs work assignments and duties in conjunction with work orders and verbal instructions. Performs duties independently without close supervision. Complies with scheduled quality/quantity reviews (that are performed by independent elevator engineering firm). Ensures elevators are operable at all times of the day for all users (i.e. staff, patients, vendors, etc.). Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Occasionally may lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Work is performed from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms. Occasionally required to work from an aerial lift platform in hard-to-reach places. Includes physical exertion related to actions such as lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying objects of varying weights, sizes and shapes; and physical effort related to movements such as walking, running, climbing, crawling and bending. Possible exposure to strain related to lack of movement such as standing in place, crouching or stooping for extended periods of time. Work is performed inside and outside and may be performed in inclement weather. May potentially be exposed to electrical hazards and bums and is periodically required to test electrical circuits while hot (energized), per VA Safety) Guidelines utilizing PPE requirements. Incumbent is required to be familiar with proper safety precautions when working in patient rooms or areas where infections or contagious diseases exist. Education Additional Information Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
