The Distinguished Software Engineer is an important role towards growing technical leadership in development of our new software system solutions. The employee will have a key influential role within a matrix organization to design and develop software system solutions that help drive development and launch of transformational solutions for our Pelvic Health ( https://www.medtronic.com/us-en/healthcare-professionals/therapies-procedures/urology/neuromodulation-therapies.html ) business. This individual will apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, translation of research to product development and knowledge of best practices to guide teams on issues related to the design, design characterization and verification testing, operations support and product release. Additionally, the individual will be responsible for supporting definition of technology and solution roadmaps. **A Day in the Life** Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned. + Designs, develops, documents, tests, maintains, and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions. + Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software. + Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. + Collect and analyze design inputs (customer needs, business needs, etc.) and transform them into high quality engineering requirements and software system solutions. + Analyses are performed at all levels of total software solution to include concept, design, implementation, test, deployment, maintenance and retirement. + Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total system solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. + Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. + Lead, coordinate, execute, and document system analysis and design activities including but not limited to architecture definition, interface management, performance modeling, and system integration, etc. + Ensures that software system have been properly architected, designed, implemented, verified and validated + Represent the organization as a primary contact for specific projects and initiatives; communicates with internal and external customers and vendors at various levels. May negotiate with others to reach understanding or agreement, and influence decision-making. + Manage complex projects, involving delegation of work and review of work products, at times acting as a team leader. + Provide guidance, coaching, and training to other employees within job area. + Establish and advocate for best practices and continuous improvement + Understand and advocate for technology evolution and participate in the development of system and product roadmaps. + Ensures software standards are met. **Must Have: Minimum Requirements** + Bachelors degree required + Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 13 years of relevant experience **Nice to Have** + Previous medical device experience with a history of developing systems from technology to market release + Software System Architecture and Design Experience + Advanced knowledge of anatomy/physiology and neurological disease states + Experience interfacing with physician customers and therapy consultants + Experience in leading, developing and launching software system solutions + Experience with Mobile Apps and patient centric solutions + Demonstrated experience translating clinical workflow into software design + Good understanding of software development practices for medical device software as well as non-medical software within a medical device system + Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement by studying and applying technical advances in area of expertise + Excellent verbal and writing skills, including presenting to senior management and business leaders + Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others on cross-functional teams **About Medtronic** Together, we can change healthcare worldwide.
