Salary Minimum$51,978Salary Maximum$95,976Salary TypeAnnualBargaining Unit/Plan211, MSUAASFJob DescriptionThe Development Director will work to develop and facilitate relationships with external entities to increase philanthropic support to the University. The Development Director works to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospective donors; coordinate volunteer activities to advance donor fundraising potential; and participates in ongoing stewardship activities. Much of the work involves face-to-face and virtual relationship management. The Development Director focuses on gifts of $25,000 per year and more. The position serves as a key member of the Advancement & Alumni Engagement team and works in close collaboration with other Directors of Development. Provide leadership, plan, implement, and carry out development activities for all gift levels: - Manage initiatives, visits, and other activities leading to charitable contributions and work collaboratively with the appropriate personnel in the colleges, schools, and departments to carry out these activities. - Recruit, enlist, supervise, and direct the work of volunteers for cultivation and solicitation of major gifts. - Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gifts ($25,000 +) for established University priorities. - Provide recognition and stewardship reports to major donors. - Participate as a member of the University-wide leadership team for prospect coordination. - Identify priorities for fundraising and develop supporting materials in collaboration with the Deans and Department Directors. - Create assessments for area on impact and around retention of donors. - Participate in special events to cultivate alumni, supporters, and friends of the University. Communication and Relationships - Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. - Work with a wide range of stakeholders, including alumni, high net-worth individuals, corporates and trusts, and foundations. - Engage senior-level individuals, including c-suite leadership and philanthropists. - Facilitate complex and strategic relationships to facilitate philanthropic support for the University. - Represent Advancement & Alumni Engagement Department and strategic plans with senior faculty, Deans, and staff. - Understand relationship management and implement throughout working style and work product. - Work to resolve complex situations involving donors, while ensuring their needs are met. - Transparent and regular communication with supervisor and team members. - Negotiate strategic and complex philanthropic support. Planning and Assessment - Strong ability to develop and implement strategic plans to advance Department and University goals. - Effective portfolio management through dynamic and complex individual prospect strategy and management. - Ability to coordinate efforts and work plans to align with Department strategies and working styles. - Work together with VP to recommend goals and establish priorities for each year, and as situations needing attention arise. - Work to individual and team metrics while facilitating regular evaluation and course correction as needed. Decision-making and Accountability - Ability to be strategic, while also being nimble and flexible. - Can be an independent worker while aligning to strategic approach and identified deliverables. - Responsible for individual financial and performance metrics, while also working toward team goals. - Mature and thorough in thought process and delivery. - Serve as a strategic advisor to prospects and donors. Ensure donor and prospect interests align with University priorities. - Ability to manage competing internal and external priorities while ensuring University strategic priorities are met or exceeded. - Ensure compliance with non-profit regulations, data privacy regulations, and communication policies. - Ability to understand and implement complex decision-making that aligns with Department and University priorities and policies. - Required Qualifications - Master’s degree plus one year of professional experience OR Bachelor’s degree plus two years of professional experience. - Four years of relevant experience in fundraising, relationship management, sales, or equivalent fields. - Ability to speak and write in a persuasive manner. An understanding of human motivation and principles affecting fundraising. - Demonstrated ability to ask for philanthropic contributions. - A high degree of creativity, innovation, and self-motivation, and the ability to work in a complex organization with a high degree of latitude in problem solving. - Ability to interact with the community of St. Cloud State University as an integral part of its external relations efforts. - Ability to project a positive image of service that presents the University positively. - Ability to understand and articulate the character and mission of St. Cloud State University and the Foundation. - Need to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
