Ideal candidates must be safety and quality orientated and be willing to work in a team orientated, fast paced work environment. This position requires individuals to operate and maintain the boilers and ammonia system, in a food manufacturing environment, following strict quality and safety standards. Experience or knowledge of steam, ammonia refrigeration, pneumatic and mechanical principles is preferred. Training will be provided to the right candidate on ammonia and related equipment. Engineers will assist in maintenance with repairs as needed, but will typically not do major repairs on their own. Responsibilities & Duties: - Operates, monitors and maintains the following: - Steam boiler generators and associated equipment. - Natural gas and fuel oil combustion systems and controls. - Boiler’s and plant’s soft-water systems and controls. - Hot water heating systems. - Compressed air system. - Ammonia refrigeration system. - Monitors and controls wastewater discharge to the city. - Responsible for monitoring the fire protection equipment. - Observe and record utilities usage and operating characteristics of equipment. - Performs chemical tests on boiler feed water and plant softened water and makes chemical or operational adjustments to maintain proper operating parameters. - Provides stationary, liaison communications, from plant production, for matters relative to the Powerhouse utilities and reacts appropriately. - Monitors automatic production processes on weekends and holidays and takes appropriate action went product loss is likely. - Monitors the plant heating/ventilating system and adjusts controls for proper operation. - Boiler operators perform frequent inspection checks and regular preventive maintenance on boiler systems and related valves, gauges, piping, and other equipment - Assists engineering and management with technical and operational expertise. - Informs Chief Operator and/or Manager of unsafe, damages, or worn equipment. Ability to work well independently while reporting any boiler operational abnormalities or safety issues to Chief Operator and/or management. Ability to adhere to GMP practices and all other food safety requirements - Performs duties of the Refrigeration Specialist and makes minor refrigeration system repairs. - Ensures all equipment, within areas of responsibility, is maintained by, performing PM’s, and lubricating. - Perform all other duties as assigned by the Manger or Chief Boiler Operator.
